About Me
I am a registered art psychotherapist – defined as someone who has undertaken a training in art psychotherapy approved by the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC), who statutorily regulate all art therapists in the UK. My HCPC registration number is AS019102.
I hold an MA in Art Psychotherapy with Distinction from Roehampton University. I am also a member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT). My BAAT membership number is 71824. I hold an up-to-date Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check.
My therapeutic approach is psychodynamic, meaning I value the importance of early experiences and significant relationships in your life. I also work with theories of conscious and unconscious feelings, and different structures of the psyche. However, I also strive to learn from other therapeutic styles, so that I can meet you in a way that is most meaningful to you. We do not all think or feel the same.
I take a warm, playful, and curious approach to your inner world, and see you as the expert in your own life. I do not have all the answers, but believe that you can find these inside yourself; I can help you be with your feelings and explore them with support so you can find your way through. I work in a trauma-informed way, meaning I prioritise establishing a secure sense of safety and containment before we delve into any trauma, and use somatic and creative techniques to help you feel safe and present.
Key beliefs which underpin my practice are that opportunities for both verbal and non-verbal communication are vital, and that building a trusting and safe therapeutic relationship is crucial as this enables all other therapeutic work to happen. I also believe we are all deeply affected by the systems we exist within and the oppressions, marginalisations and power dynamics which arise from these contexts.
I am queer, trans and neurodivergent, and have a wealth of experience and passion supporting people in an inclusive way.
Previous to becoming an art therapist, I trained as a teacher and worked in care and adult community mental health settings. Outside of my private practice work, I also work for an organisation providing art psychotherapy in primary and secondary schools across Sussex. I have delivered training to multiple organisations about LGBTQ+ mental health and inclusion.
